Five weight loss benefits from drinking green tea

Whether you want to improve your health or get a different look you are after, losing weight is not easy.

There’s no single tweak good enough to burn fat quickly and effectively.

While lifestyle changes are key in this process, it’s not only what you eat but also what you drink.

Dr Alka Patel, a GP and CEO of Lifestyle First, shared three hot drinks that could aid fat burning.

1.Green tea

Dr Patel said: “Green tea has been shown to have a modest effect on weight loss due to its catechin content, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).

“Catechins can increase metabolism and fat oxidation.

“However, the effect is relatively small, and incorporating green tea alone is unlikely to lead to significant weight loss.”

While the weight loss might not be substantial, research, published in the journal Obesity, found the drink managed to reduce body fat despite participants sticking to their usual dietary and exercise habits throughout the trial.

2. Black coffee

“Coffee can temporarily increase metabolism and fat oxidation due to its caffeine content,” the doctor said.

A study by Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health found that drinking four cups of coffee daily could reduce body fat by about four percent.

However, the doctor recommended watching out for what you add to your coffee.

“Excessive amounts of sugar, cream, or other high-calorie additives can counteract its potential benefits for weight loss.”

3. Herbal teas

The doctor added that some herbal teas, such as peppermint or chamomile tea, could help promote feelings of fullness and therefore reduce your calorie intake.

She recommended opting for calorie-free herbal blends.
